The flickers were enjoying the Russian olives. Taken with my new 400 that I am enjoying very much.

Great shot. You still got a flicker in Idaho, in January? thought they all migrated? :)

nd you still have olives in January? Ours were eaten or fell off long ago. I've never seen a Flicker anywhere other than on a tree, so this is a neat behavior shot for me.

We still have them up here Mitch, not many, but a few hardy souls are roughing it out.

In the summer you can find them depopulating anthills, one of their favourite past times.:D

Thanks for the comments. There are lots of flickers here right now. I asume they are here year round. Several were near these ponds enjoying the olives. The ground is frozen and a little snow so no ants. Yes I have a new 400 5.6. Still learning how to use it and enjoying every minute.

This guy was streching or something. Maybe showing off his orange feathers.

For some reason, when I think of Idaho in the winter, I think 8 foot snow drifts, world class skiing, tree popping cold. Not northern flickers eating olives.

I'm down in the banana belt near Boise. There is plenty of snow in the mountains this year. Glad I'm here. I can visit the snow or not. :D
