Hi,
How does this lens perform? I know that there has been a lot of talk about the Sigma 17-35 a while ago, but I would really like to hear from some owners how this lens perform with the D30/D60?!
Regards
Michael

I ended up returning the Sigma and buying the Tokina "cheapie". The Tokina has so far beat the socks off the Sigma, but it is not a basic problem with the Sigma lens. So many folks love the Sigma.
The problem is quality control. It seems you either get a good Sigma and love the lens, or you get a lemon and don't want to try your luck again. To this day I would have loved a good one so I could write a great review but it just didn't happen. The Tokina does fine for now since my needs are more toward the long lenses but one day I will *maybe* spring for the $1600 16-35 Canon.
I will never buy another lens, regardless of brand, without making shure of my return options. Given good return options, I'll try them all!8) Even another Sigma, based on positive user reviews.

Now I have had a chance to test a brand new Sigma 17-35mm and I'm sorry to say that this lens beats the socks out of my Sigma 28-105mm and I really can't see any difference between the pictures taken with the Sigma 17-35mm and a rented Canon 16-35mm L!
I'm sure that if you did a very "long" test on both lenses (Canon/Sigma) there would be a difference but the difference is not big enough for me to spent the 1000$ more on Canon. The problems I have read about Sigma beeing soft etc - not on this lens.
I'll post pictures soon so you can see what I mean.

Michael

Michael,
HotDiggity! I KNEW this should have been a good lens!
Super glad you found a good one, can't wait to see the results. Thanks.
Rudi,
Just returned from vacation with pics from the Tokina and the 28-70L. Still in processing (filled the 1gig micro for the first time) but so far I am a very happy camper!
