Thanks Gary. Often they are so hairy it is difficult to get a picture of their faces but I try to do so if possible. :)

Interesting view on that closeup.
Thanks Troy. As you probably know by now, I like to get these things from different angles if I can, it makes it a bit more interesting. :)

I assume you are still using the Kodak. However these are really good Joan and I have to say that you have come a long way from where you were several months ago when you began in macro. A very marked improvement indeed, you should be very proud of your accomplishments. Not being picky, just some constructive comments, it appears that the depth of field could have been just a bit better but that is hard to do sometimes, even with a DSLR and macro lens stopped down, however I too have the same problem with my point and shoot PowerShot G7, the auto focus does not always see the subject like I do, no matter how far down one may stop the lens sometimes.

Yes, the compositions are quite nice as are the colors and details, very sharp on those spines and good details in the little "feets." The DOF I was refering to is mainly in the second image around the mouth, eyes, and more of those little feet but not to worry, all together a very nice set of images. :D

Thanks for the kind comments, it is much appreciated. :) I agree with your comments on the second pic, the face is not as clear as I would like it to be. I think the problem lies in the fact that it is cropped from the full pic with shows better DOF than this, although the clarity is still an issue on the face. :)

What does it turn into?
Thanks Chris. I am not sure if it is a butterfly or moth. I have been having a great problem trying to get the id on these caterpillars and it has been suggested by a few people that I actually begin to breed them out and take pics, then do a book. An interesting suggestion. :D

I searched all 236 digital pages, count em,' of buguide.net and found quite a number of similar species, all moths. Yeah some were close but close really applies only to "horse shoes and nuclear weapons" and with horse shoes one really has to get close. However I would say that this might one day become a moth. It has all the characteristic markings, of which, that suggest a moth caterpillar. :D

Posts like this can make ya lose sleep...

I searched all 236 digital pages,
 Thanks my friend. It is winter and projects like this search can keep you out of mischief. ;) You are a star. I searched what was available here too and cannot find it either. As it is, we only have books on butterflies and very, very few moths. Apparently, very little has been done on moths so I was told to send my pics to a place which, if it is one they do not know, could be named after me. Wouldn't that be fun!!

It can happen. I once came across something that no one could ID for a very long time and it was suggested that I too had found a missing link. However after several weeks of searching and contacting various places...someone ID'd the critter. :( It was or had already been cataloged but hey, you never know. ;)

In this third world country of ours, I can believe most have not been named.:) But it is fun to think I might be famous one day!! A girl can dream can't we?? :D

20 days. I'll be staying in Bergvliet, Blouberg and Simon's Town (Family everywhere)

April is good, though a bit windy. I think by the end of the month the worst might've died down. Anything will make me happier than the greyness of the skies here :(

That sounds wonderful. I am sure you are going to enjoy it. I don't think I could ever live in the UK.
