tips on astrophotography

I want to start taking exposures of star trails, and other night time objects with my Digital Rebel. What are some tips, reccomendations, and other requirements that I will need to make notice to make sure I get good shots?

thats, that helped a lot. Just one final question: how can I work the bulb setting on my Digital Rebel? Thats the only part I do not understand.

To set it for BULB set the camera in manual mode (M mode) and change the shutter speed to BULB. You'll need a remote release like this (click on the picture):
