I was curious if anyone could help me solve my problems with my self portrait work I have attempted. Using three Pocket Wizards (strobe, camera, and remote), I am having problems with my stobes and PWs firing in sync with my remote trigger on the 30D. When I am not using the strobes, the remote trigger works flawlessly, but add the strobes and it just isn't working correctly. I will get either a dark underexposed image or some other ugly photo.

I am not too sure if it matters but I am not using the PW cable with the "awake" switch. I am using the regular (and cheaper) cable and pressing the remote button once to "wake" the camera. I don't know if this is my issue or not. If I could get this nailed down and corrected, I would have to bribe my family to be models for me...just kidding. Any advice from anyone would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

What you need to do is set the PW on the camera, which I assume is either a MultiMax or a Plus II, to relay mode. Set the channel of the PW unit the strobe is hooked up to to a channel that is one higher than the channel used for the PW on the camera. So, if your camera PW is set to channel 1, set the flash PW to channel 2.

Set the PW unit in your hand, the one you're using to trigger the camera, to channel the camera PW is set to (channel 1 in our example).

You should now be all set without having timing or syncing problems. :)

BTW, if you're not using a PW MM or a PW +II, you're going to need a transmitter and a receiver hooked up to the camera.
