20MB/sec both read and write!!!

And they revised Ultra II series, no wonder the price drop.

How useful is that? There probably doesn't exist a camera (yet) that can write to the card that fast.

I was particularly interested in the description of the Ultra III. Sandisk is shifting to a cheaper to use technology known as MLC, that is usually associated with slow performance. They plan to make it as fast or faster then the current Ultra II's. That sort of news doesn't deter me from buying the current Ultra II's while they are still available. Prices now for 2GB Ultra II's are pretty low ($170-190). I just bought 2 yesterday.

Scott

The key word being... YET.

Currently and historically,. the Cameras ability to write to a given medium,. and the mediums ability to allow such writing have remained close to neck and neck speed wise. At least it has remained close enough that in almost any given combo.. one needs to do a bit of research or testing to devine where a bottleneck lies... is it the camera or the card that is defining my max thruput.

The release of the faster cards will mean the next gen cameras will have to try and keep pace.

Exactly. I bought Ultra II's for my DRebel even though it probably doesn't write fast enough to take advantage of the card's speed. I knew that I would eventually be upgrading the camera body (20D soon!) and that it would likely take better advantage of the card's capabilities. No need to be obsessed with such things, but I would hate to feel like I have to replace all of my CF's when I purchase new cameras.

Doh, and I just ordered my first Sandisk UltraII card yesterday.
However, even with my current 12x card, the 20D is so fast that I've never wished it was faster. So, the UltraII will be ridiculously fast in comparison.
I guess the biggest difference will be transfering to the PC.
Although, even my 12x card with a USB2 reader is still very fast.
