This is a shot of one of my favorite dogs. He was in the show ring and I took the shot as he moved toward me.
Any comments on how to improve would be great.

It is not that I dislike the shot, it is just that I think that the shot should have been better. I would not have cropped so close to the top of the head for one thing. If that is the actual top of the frame, well then, not much can be done now.

But for me, what stands out is the disturbing amount of oversharpening on the dogs face and on the hair above his right eye. I am not quite sure what look you were going for, but you missed it. Was that an attempt at an artificial depth of field?

If you want to continue with this shot, please post the original unprocessed one, and lets see what can be done from there.

Rad...

Thanks. This is the kind of reply you look for when you post to this topic.

This was my first time taking photos at a dog show with my Rebel. This dogs brindle coloring and a VERY sunny day made for these results. The oversharpened areas where a shiny silver color mixed into the black and brown.

I wish I had the original (like I said, I'm learning).

i noticed you said that this was taken with a "rebel" was it a digital rebel? if not what did you do to scan the image? if so, what settings did you use?

the quality of the image is really lacking, it allmost looks like it was pulled of of a interlaced video and "de-interlaced" the solors look a tad off as well

I don't see as much wrong with your artistc approach to the shot, my guess would be that the processing killed it
