I made this thread for discussion of our meet-up, as the other one is getting harder to navigate, and this way the info is right here at the start.

What: FBTSOYP Denver POTN Meet-Up - (That's "Fly-By-The-Seat-of-Your-Pants :P)
Where: Denver Museum of Nature and Science
When: February 17th, 2008 @ 9AM @ Main Entrance

If the weather is bad, we will probably just hang around the museum and see some exhibits or something - we can figure it out when we get there.

We are planning to meet up on the 17th and do some photography, talk about gear, and just have a good time.

We are not positive on where we will be meeting up or travelling to, so if you have suggestions let's post them and decide. We have thought of heading up to RMNP for some winter mountain shooting.

If you can go, please confirm in this thread and I will update the list of attendees.

Attendees:

OdiN1701 (Andrew)
Elvman1 (Elvis)
eenorton (Beth)
303villain
col4bin (Frank)
Cristnotchrist

jtmorales (Tentative)
Mario (Tentative)
Sweethouse (Michael - Tentative)
mson - Tentative

Damn....now this is a busy thread! LOL

Put me down. I'm not sure if I'll have anything else going on that weekend, but I hope to move things around if I do. I'd like to meet some of my fellow photogs in the local area.

Add me to the list Andrew. :) I'd like to suggest that for the first meeting, we do something a little more local... the trip to RMNP sounds like it would require a few of us to hitch a ride and I suspect the drivers might like to meet who they're volunteering to chauffeur before actually committing to it. :D

Locally, we could head downtown for some urban shooting... or over to City Park and either the zoo or the Museum of Nature and Science... a little macro shooting at the Butterfly Pavillion...

Well we need to decide where we want to go. I'm big into landscapes - animals don't interest me really. I was going to go to the museum today to get a cityscape, but I just looked outside....it's snowing here.

Put me down, but I'll have to wait closer until I know for sure. :)

I may be able to attend, but like Mario, I have to wait until it gets closer to know for sure.

The 17th will work for me. Please mark me down as a yes.

EDIT: As for location, I would prefer some outdoor shooting (weather permitting).

Ps, I am totally interested in shooting some urban locations please, I'd love to find some things around Metro Denver if possible. :)

How is Roxborough this time of year? I've never been there.

Roxborough is nice as long as you do not mind walking on snowpack. I went there for a hike on New Years Day.

All I've got in the way of hiking for winter is a pair of HiTek waterproof hiking boots and some of those slip-on things for ice.

Hiking boots would suffice there. There was snowpack but I did not need any crampons or snowshoes.

Mark me down as a tentative. I may have an engagement shoot that day, I am waiting to hear back from the bride.

I would also like to stay around town somewhere and shoot rather than a winter hike. I don't really have all the appropriate gear to be trudging through snow.

I'm up for some urban strolling around. I kind of like that idea, so if it's cold out, there might be a coffee shop or pub nearby. ;)

Mark me down. I'll try to trade someone at work to get the day off :)

This was on the second page - not good!

Anyway, I should have a 10-22mm Canon this week so that would open me up to some architecture stuff that I otherwise might not have bothered with :P

It was supposed to be delivered today, but DHL didn't leave it - they have left every single other freakin package they ever brought but not this one. *sigh*

So do we want to try Roxborough, or just walk around downtown somewhere? A bunch of suspicious photographers walking in downtown Denver...should be interesting haha :P

I've been wanting to get down there for a good cityscape at the Nature and Science museum so maybe that would be a good starting point, depending on weather, and the park is right there too.

I'd prefer to do urban stuff, at least until the weather is a little nicer. Than we can hikey-hike all we want. ;)

So where do we want to meet guys? And what time?

col4bin

I live downtown so I could get anywhere fairly quick. The question for me is what gear do I lug around.

mson

Location does not matter to me. I am free up until about 3PM (why I accepted as tentative).

eenorton

Have we decided what we're gonna shoot yet? The (extended) weather report I saw said there's a storm heading in the end of next week... Maybe we could tentatively plan on urban shooting downtown, but have an indoor (Museum of Nature and Science?) location as a backup? The earlier the better for me.

Alright - I'm just going to make an executive decision -

Meeting at Denver Museum of Nature and Science at 9AM (when it opens) on Sunday.

I have wanted a shot of the cityscape from the skywalk - I don't know if they will charge for that if we ask nicely or not. I'm going to be mobile - probably bring my 10-22 and 24-105 and a tripod, and that's about it.

From there we can discuss where to head out to, etc. Or if the weather is particularly bad what to do - we could always take a look around the museum and chat, etc.

I will PM everyone my phone number.

I wish I could make this, but my son has basketball and I have another photo thing to attend. Hope you guys have fun. I look forward to seeing the shots and maybe making the next meet.

eenorton

Thanks Andrew! Count me in too.

Main entrance is on the north side and if you get there a bit early you can actually park pretty close.

weather is supposed to be nice this weekend. i have been able to get up to the skydeck without having to pay however it might not be so easy with a large group. I always travel with my entire kit. You never know what the day may bring.

Hi everyone,

I am a fairly new member here @ POTN. Just got my 40D right after Christmas. Will be nice to meet some members and learn about digital photography.

My only problem is I am in Greeley. Might takes me a while to get there.

I will try to make it to the meeting.

BTW, if you guys decided to do the RMNP trip....that will be great.

Thanks

:)

Well, we didn't get much shooting done, but it was nice to meet Mike (mson), Frank (Col4bin) and Andrew (OdiN1701)!

Here are the links we talked about:

Lighting seminar: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=434060

And my favorite Urban photog on POTN. This is just one thread and I would encourage you to look at his web site and search for other threads he's started. http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=414685&highlight=bottombracket

I'm definitely looking forward to shooting some wildflowers in the spring!!

And here's my one, overly processed  shot from the day.

The sky looks rather grey. I think it needs the crappy cloud removal filter run :P

I will have to load up mine later - was going to see what HDR could do to it - but I don't have high hopes.

That shot of Manhattan is great.

Don't worry - you didn't miss any photos that's for sure. We did talk about getting a group together for some wildflower shots in the future.

Sorry you've got the crud Elvis. It got me two weeks ago and knocked me on my rear! And yeah, Pio's (bottombracket) Manhattan shots are great! I lived in Manhattan for 4 years and his shots always capture the true feeling of the city.

It was great meeting everyone. Today turned out to be one of those rare overcast days. Oh well. I am looking forward to getting out as a group in the spring.

I will not be able to make that seminar. The Avalanche have a home game that evening.

Hi, Denver POTN's! I am going to be shooting the National MathCounts Competition in May, anyone available at that time to meet me downtown? I won't have a car, but I will have all my gear and may have a few hours to kill.

May is a ways off for me but if you PM when the date gets closer I would be happy to meet up. As of now I do not have any trips (business or personal) planned for May but that is always subject to change.

Sounds great, Frank. Would love to get some help shooting, if you have the time. You'd love the competitors. They wow me with their smarts every time. It's my 3rd year shooting for them.

Friday afternoon and evening. I think the PR people hired pros, but I'm not sure. I told them I'd find help and they can pay all of us something, but it was too late. I'm hoping to have my sons with me to help. There are 70 teams to take pictures of and then the competitions. It's an all day Friday and then Saturday night banquet.

I'd love to meet all of you there. I have met many POTNers around the country. This summer I hope to meet up again with the UT folks.

Add me to the PM list. It would be fun to meet up and help shoot if you still need the help. Once I know the date I will know if I am available or not.

Sorry I didn't make it guys! I ended up getting some awesome couple shots with my lady. We had ZERO pictures of us so it was pretty important to her. I'd like to organize another meet in March/April once it's nicer out. :)

Yeah we were talking about going and doing some wildflowers once they start coming out later in the year. Of course Monday was a pretty decent day too...too bad we have jobs.
