Photo paper brands

I've just got into printing images on my Canon i560 photo printer.

I've tried a couple brands of high end glossy paper but am curious what everyone's brand and type for best overall print quality irregardless of cost.

I'm not familiar with your printer - I use a Canon S820 Phot with 6 separate ink tanks. I get great results with the Canon Photo Paper Pro but it is almost $1 per sheet. I am also not especially fond of the high gloss so I purchased some Ilford Gallery Classic Pearl Paper (NOT the cheaper quick-dry Ilford Gallery Pearl they sell at Sam's Club - check out their website for info because they have several confusing varieties) and love it. I paid about $40 for 125 sheets from B&H so it is much cheaper. I also like the Canon Matte Photo Paper for certain images - especially behind glass in a frame - and it costs about $.50 per sheet. Make sure you set the printer for the correct paper and quality settings to get the best results (Ilford provides settings for their papers on Canon printers).

I say you'll get the best results with a minimum of hassle with the OEM papers.

You can make others work but that may involve extra profiles and hardware modifications too.

Of course many on this forum like to tinker when they arent online!

I agree, but Canon does not offer any high-quality paper other than the high-gloss so if you want a nice semi-gloss look you must go elsewhere!! And the Ilford paper I mentioned gives great results. :D

I use the Ilford Galerie Classic Gloss and Pearl papers and am very happy with them. I use the Pearl paper for pictures of people and the gloss for animals/flowers etc.

Once you downlaod the profile and get used to making the necessary modifications when you print it works perfectly. Where I run into trouble is printing some prints on Ilford paper then on Canon paper. Going back and forth can cause me to forget to make the necessary changes, so I pretty much stick with the Ilford all the time.

Canon printersand Canon Ink is desined for Canon paper and works very,very well. I also use an i560 and an i960. I love them both. Photos will last a long long time :D :D

I bought Kodah ultima picture paper 4x6 package - 71lb, 10 mil and used their recommended ink settings. The pictures look find if you look directly at the photo, but if you look at an angle, you see graininess and even different objects in the picture appear as different field of ink on the paper. I'm very dissapointed being Kodak which is big into their paper.

I've also printed on Epson premium glossy photo paper - 10.4 mil, 68lb with great results. You cannot tell it wasn't developed from a film camera. If you look at the picture from an angle it looks the same when looking head on.

I'm going to return the 8.5x11 kodak paper I bought. I'll probably try canon paper in the future since I have a canon i560 and I've printed once on HP that came in a free kit that didn't give specs on the paper. For the most part I'll be sticking with Epson when I can.

I've even read reviews stating prints from expensive photo printers aren't much better than the $100 photo printers.
