Can anyone tell me how P.O.T.N. got started and who is running it ? I am just courious! I orginaly thought when I joined that it was connected to Canon but now I am thinking it is not. I have looked for something that would tell me about it but I can't find anything.

Canon, you would think they would be kicking in to keep this great forum running.

Thanks for the quick reply but now another stupid question. Who is Pekka Saarinen ?
Is he a photographer that just decided to start this forum ?
I read the into but doesn't say much about it.

That's all I can offer you. I'm very sure you will get the answer you desire from the throbbing brain a.k.a. The forum.

Yes, he is the great man whos started it all. He is the owner (pays for most along with a little help from donations), he is the head admin and he is a photographer.

His "real life job" is double bass with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra. He started this shortly after he bought his first PowerShot G. More at http://www.photography-on-the.net (without the /forum/).

If you buy Volume I of the POTN book, Pekka wrote about how this forum evolved on the front flypage.

Cool beans, hard to beleive someone is putting out money for everyone else to enjoy. He must be a good guy to do all of this.

Basically, the reason POTN started was dpreview :)

Personally, I like to keep low profile. POTN is made by members. I'm one of the members. We have a great moderator crew who makes POTN spam free and do daily forum maintenance. I try to keep the server running and improve the "POTN platform" when needed.

Thanks for the reminder, Dave! It's been a while since I made a donation. Off to paypal!

^^^

Pekka also likes to maintain a high level of modesty in what he's done for POTN.

He's the Godfather of cool.

A personal dislike of dpreview or as a compliment to dpreview.

Hi Pekka , nice to meet you ! It was all curiosity on how and who was making this run.
I didn't know about the donations even though I have been a member for over a year , I just recently started getting more active. Thanks for the input and the insite about the donations.

A personal dislike of dpreview or as a compliment to dpreview.

Let's say it this way: dpreview discussions were gear feature oriented and mostly flame-war'ish (no moderation, no community respect). I was looking gear-usage oriented talk, more photography related.

I can well understand that!

Time to make another donation I think... because this place is genuinely the best forum I've found!

cheers
Bill
