Fairly easy to find, just go to somehwere like monument valley, bryce or the grand canyon and they are just laying around in nice bags. You may notice people standing nearby but they are usually to "focussed" on the view to worry about the "old" equipment. However it is a bit like mushroom hunting, you need to make sure you get the right type or they can be damaging.
