Haven't posted in the transportation section before, but I got a chance to take my camera in the back seat for a couple of flights the past two days while I'm waiting my next phase of training. All shots were either Canon 10-22 or 24-70L. Here are some of my favorites, enjoy.

No I didn't. I'm a F-16 pilot, so it is more or less another day at the office for me :). Not that it wasn't fun, I just wanted to get some pictures of action as it happened.

So often I look at aviation photos and, while they look cool, I know that it isn't a realistic view of what actually takes place. Most of them are "posed" shots with the perfect angle, no glare from inside your own canopy, jets stripped down to super clean configurations, fuel weights precisely balanced so the jet turns better, non-standard formations, jets freshly painted and spit-shined, etc.

I just jumped in the back seat of two normal training missions and took pictures during the dogfights, during the intercepts, and during true evasive maneuvering. Some of the shots could have been composed better...some of them could have been better using a longer lens, but that wasn't really my aim, nor was it easy...my 5 lb camera was VERY difficult to handle at 7G's. I feel truly blessed to be living my childhood dream. I'm just trying to capture that dream in a little different light (no pun intended). Thanks for looking and seeing my world.

And for all you crew-dogs out there...you know who you are. You rock, and no we don't forget you.

Thanks for sharing, more importantly, thank you for your service!

So, are you a Panther, Emerald Knight, Bulldog, or ?? (I don't think you'd be a Black Widow based on your name, but could be wrong)

I have one of your sqn t-shirts (need to get a new one).

Love the pictures, keep sharing when possible - that stuff doesn't get old at all.

Well done! Came close to going down your road. Was offered a Nav slot in College ROTC... but, told the boss he could not have me unless I was a driver. My dream platform was the C5. Heavy Iron! Ended up not going any heavier than a 172 puddle jumper.

Really like #2. Canopy added a great "burst effect" to the sun. Lined up great for you. Would have like #4 better if you had been rolling into the sun or maybe partially so to see more of the detail of you. Last couple are interesting cause I kept asking myself... "hmmm, which way is up?" :D

Keep shooting... and grunting!
And thanks for your present and future service.

Nice post. You've probably earned yourself a couple of free squawks!

Just curious but do you have a place in the pit to stash your camera or do you have to keep it in your mitts the entire time you're up?

Hah, we don't CCIP moving targets. We either use maverick or strafe for the movers. There are techniques for strafe, but nothing much set in stone.

I've been pretty busy these past couple of weeks and probably will be for the next few as well. I'm going to try to go up again mid-late February. I'll post shots when I get em :)

thankyou very much for your reply ryan!

i usually tend to get good hits in GMT, but its allways soo tempting when you see a nice long line of tanks to run down there in CCIP in a "one pass and haul ass" style tactic lol

Id love to meet a f16 pilot who had managed to have a go on falcon 4, just to see how close to the mark it is realism wise, i mean obviously theres no G' to contend with but....

i really do honestly look forward to seeing more from you buddy, allways nice to see them in their day to day use...

the day i failed my medical for the r.a.f, was the worst day of my life all i ever wanted to do was get in a tonka:cry:

cheers buddy, best of luck

I got to meet C.J. "Heater" Heatly once. Very cool dude as well. He was a Topgun driver and a pretty darn good shooter too. If any of you remember he was also a technical consultant for the Topgun movie. In the Officers Club that back lit duratrans of the two TC approachng the carrier is his image.

Thanks for the F-16 shots great angles on all.

Heatly is one of my top five favorite photographers. I've just about worn out my copy of "Cutting Edge."

Good for you !! I spent 4 years as a crew chief on the F-16 and in those years only 2 NCO's were lucky enough to go for a ride.

Will this be your plane when training is finished?

The fields in 6 look very patch like, very weird.
