it almost looks fake. I mean that in a good way. Was the sky really that clear beyond the clouds? Pretty cool photo.

That was just how it looked to the human eye. Only processing was slight level adjustment (moved the midpoint to the right a bit) then brightened the foreground slightly.
It went from clear blue sky to this in about ten minutes!
This photo taken 2 minutes after the first photo, then the heavens opened.

No problem. The cloud formation in the middle shot looks very similar.
From what I have seen Miami storms make ours look like a light shower.

yeah then it pissed down while i was on the roof doing work, bloody wind changed direction in like 1min and moved the clouds right overhead.
