This would be a great alternative to the Canon 10-20 that cost 800 USD!!!
.................I would probably still prefer a 10 prime...........even at around f4-5.6..........
So for now, its just me and my 17-40 still :-)

It will be very interesting to see the actuall reviews of the new lens - it's the widest zoom ever, wider than the Sigma and the Nikon 12-24 ... The 4.5 minimum aperture is somewhat limiting for indoor / low light shooting, but I guess that it's OK for landscapes.

The new SP AF11-18mm F/4.5-5.6 Di-II LD Aspherical (IF), an ultra wideangle zoom lens, is Tamron's first lens designed for exclusive use with digital SLR cameras using APS-C size image sensors.
Too bad!

Too bad!
At least it is not (likely) an EF-S mount and can therefore be used on the 10D and other previous APS-size Canon digital SLR's.

I still prefer the sigma 12-24 over this for two reasons:
1 - Price
2 - Full frame lens.
I still dream one day I will get a full frame digital camera.

1 - Price
I haven't seen anything about the price yet. I wonder what will it be ...

Maybe we just wait for the reviews
'Designed for digital' might mean that corner performance is not optimal. Or, it mean that vignetting could be heavy.
Best regards,

Are you referring to the Canon 17-40 L ?? if so, keep in mind that lens is designed for 35mm sized film/sensor. So most of us not shooting at 17mm at the widest.
