View Full Version : WORLD WIDE PHOTO WEEK: PART 96 -- Hidden Beauty
BLS
20th of January 2008 (Sun), 18:02
The theme for this week is "Hidden Beauty." Interpret this any way you like, as different and unusual interpretations are always welcome.
Here are the rules:
1. Shots need to be taken between sunrise Monday and sunset the following Sunday. Because this activity is supposed to encourage us to get out and shoot, please don't post old shots from your archives. Crummy shots and art are equally welcome -- just get out & shoot, and then share!
2. Post your shots at any time during the week.
3. Post a maximum of two shots if you're uploading them to POTN (i.e., attaching them). You can post more than two if you're linking to shots that are not hosted by POTN (i.e.,embedding them), but keep within POTN rules. Also keep within POTN rules about size. A copy of the rules can be found here: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/...ad.php?t=51049 (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=51049)
That's it! Have fun!

I'll start this off, there are plenty of ideas out there for this category. A couple quick shots before I had dessert.
Your plain ol' lookin' Kiwi Fruit.

uh - guys - you DO realise I am a kiwi, don't you?
While all the attention from the women is flattering, would the men please refer to that green furry thing as a kiwifruit?
Thank you.

So you don't want to be thought of as disgusting and gritty inside? Hmm. I can see that point of view
(me hates kiwi fruit)

Looks like a golf course I like it.
I hope not - this is just a bit of waste ground where someone decided to put a picnic table under a tree.
Do your golf courses look like this?

Nice shots so far.
Jim -- Good idea and good shots. I'm like Giles: not keen on kiwifruits. To me they have an under-taste of cucumber. Maybe I need my tongue scraped (as my grandmother used to say).
John -- Very pretty scene. Looks relaxing and inviting.
Dave -- I wonder how that zinfandel tastes since it was made from old vines instead of grapes. ;)

Nice effect with the DOF, Dave. Looks like a nice lens.
When we chose this week's theme, I had a feeling that I would be getting out the macro lens. And I did. Then I made dinner, and we ate the subjects. All gone!

It's time to think about a topic for next week. Any suggestions? Here are some that might get a discussion started:
1. Toys
2. Old Technology or maybe just Technology
3. Broken
Let's hear your ideas. And it's never too late to post for Hidden Beauty!

I like 'em all and I liked this weeks theme too. Toys and broken could both come under old technology and vice-versa. Always interestuing looking for old stuff.

Broken sounds great...but, I still haven't posted for HIDDEN.
I have been out camping in the desert in the rain, wind and cold to bring this to you all :)
HIDDEN.
There are many things hidden in the desert that very few people ever see or enjoy. It looks so stark and boring. Mile after mile of endless sand and rock. We went out this week to find Geodes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geode) We drove to a campground down a long dusty dirt road and met up with friends who have 4WD. Once we got camp set up, we went on to the geode beds.
One the outside you would never believe what is on the inside. He ya'll go.

Geodes always fascinate me. Are they plentiful in the bed? Now that you found some, what will you do with them? In the same bed, do they tend to be the same color?
joayne
29th of January 2008 (Tue), 11:40
Barbara, when you find a spot, they are plentiful and tend to be the same color. We are cutting and breaking them open, just for our own enjoyment. We also hunt garnets near Palm Springs. The desert may not look that pretty, but there are some beautiful gem stones here.

Taken with the 100mm. I will play for hours with these. It has been raining here, a fantastic event rain, so the light was sketchy. Weather will be sunny for the next 250 days, so I guess I will get another chance for good light :)
