My Two Sons....

I have followed the oldest around the world to watch him play. He now plays for the #1 Tier II Team in the US.

My Youngest has just started. I will follow him with the same passion!

Similar to my reason. My son is now in his second year of USA Midgets. Nice shots.

Haha, I guess I'm a hybrid, I started to photograph my brothers, only problem is I coach one of them. The nice thing about my deal though is, parents help on gear as I'm in college and they're photo taking challenged when it comes to sports :)

Tammy is the reason I got into doing what I do.

We met 12 years ago on the hockey rink and got knocked on my A$$ playing against her, I played the puck, she played me... :)

She was rated as one of the best female hockey players to come out of Colorado when she was 18, and turns the big 40 this saturday. We are celebrating by going out after the Badger vs. Gophers hockey game and getting liquified.

I wish I had some better shots of her in action. All the photos I have taken of her over the last 3 years Im ashamed to even put on here as I didn't know how to shoot.

Just when I am starting to get the hang of shooting, their team up and disbanded this year because of various reasons.

Now Im trying to make a living out of shooting sports, as I eventually want to cover the pro ranks.

I have had a great mentor in Dmwierz as he has shown me the ropes to get me on my way. Now I just have to make sure to keep the knowledge in my brain working efficiently!

I started trying to take hockey photos of Sam when he was an 11yr old Pee Wee. He's now 16 and has one more season of high school hockey. I've received a lot of help from people on this forum. Not that they would call me a star pupil but I'm having a blast!

I thought you guys got into sports photography for the BIG DOLLARS! Kidding, I started shooting sports for the same reason -- my kids!

Three reasons for me: hockey, swimming and hockey

I still play, but I'd rather watch them compete any day of the week.

tomd, where are you currently located?

I am interested if the McFarland that is on the jersey and I think of the stick of the kid with the Minnesota jersey is the city located in Wisconsin?

I did get in it to photograph my kids, but for some reason, when the action came to them, I seemed to lower both the camera and my lower jaw and just gape. I do get a few here and there though.

Not me. I shoot other people's kids.

I started when I was in high school. I had an unquenchable passion for photography and soon learned to love sports photography.

These days I've discovered something else. Many of the kids I shoot are sons / daughters of friends of mine. I like to capture images for the kids to see and for their parents to see. I want the pics to be as close to pro-level as possible so the kid looks at himself and says

"Wow, I'm Great! I look like a pro".

Seems to be a pattern 'round here...

I got into sports by shooting my kids as well. Here's my youngest (14) getting bounced by his sensei.

My oldest (16) also does judo but I don't have any shots of him on this computer...all of last years stuff has been moved to the removable drives and I'm not near those right now...

Me too! I started shooting soccer and thought that was hard until I moved indoors to shoot gymnastics. I would like to think I have learned a lot in the past 8 months!

This was one of the first photos I took with my camera about 2 years ago. A lot of hockey, miles on my car and photos since then. And not too many more penalty minutes ;)

I'd go crazy standing around a hockey rink just watching.

I don't have kids and I'm not quite out of college, so I have different reasons.

Ironically, it was almost one year ago I went to a hockey game as an intern for a local weekly paper. Armed with a Rebel XT and an old, and later determined defective Sigma 70-210 2.8 I returned with a grainy photo of several players crashing the net.

That aside, I rediscovered photography while in high school and after a couple lulls, I realized that one of the only times I was relaxed when I finished high school and started college, I was in fact holding a camera.

So I have no particular attachment to the players in each game other than the hope that they play their best, don't get hurt, and enjoy their high school days because most of them won't play competitive college hockey.

I also shoot D1 college hockey and enjoy it for the same reasons, except that many of our alumni ARE in the NHL.
