Anyone use gobo's with the alien bees with the standard reflector (or other holders)? Which ones did you get.

I have the light mod kits, and just slide in some tin foil gobos that I made, works pretty good when I feel like using them.

Which kit? Is it from AB?

The gobos from goboman don't work. (I got them today.) I think the light needs to be more concentrated or something (they're too small for my AB strobes anyway - had to try it on a JTL Versa-lite 160.)

Peter, I'm curious to know a bit detail. Can you post some test shots even though the gobos from goboman don't work? I'm also looking for a way to project a pattern on a plain background using B800. Thanks in advance.

Yes they are from AB, I have 4 of their Light Mod mainframes, 2x barn doors, 2x snoots, and some filters. I orginally bought them for the snoots, but found the barn doors also work better using the light-mod sets, then just on the standard reflector. Also the honeycombs seem to work better and it is easier to swap out colored gels with the light-mod mainframe attached. However, you lose the ability to run an umbrella as you can with the standard reflector, but then I usually am not using an umbrella when using barndoors or the snoots.

Related trivia: The only product which I definately think is not worth the price is the gel filter holders. I bought one pack, but since seeing them I figure I can make then cheaper, but since they are still good haven't felt the need yet.

There's nothing to show. No patterns showed. Just slightly dimmed version of a no gobo shot.

I think the goboman gobos are typical of those used to project images on walls/screens at live events, etc. The projectors use a very concentrated/focused light to project the image. A flash/strobe isn't that.

Peter, In case if you are curious, Lotto has done some experiment using cardboard cookie and B800 to get some pattern effect on the background. The link is here. http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=446454
