Hello: My daughter (who is 25) gave me the attached photo which was taken about 23.5 years ago. I scanned in the original (KidsOld, at 600 dpi), and the color rendition is the same on my monitor as the original photo. My attempt at restoration (I did not finish cleaning up the edges of the background) is KidsNew. I am quite new at using CS, so I would think that better results can be had. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks, Steve

Here's a start. The photo isn't that great though. You're not gonna get much detail in the shadows.

I used auto colour, then lens correction and added a dark vignette since the photo was light around the edges of the photo. The some unsharp mask for sharpening. 200%, 0.3 radius, 0 threshold. Oh, and a bunch of spot healing to get rid of specks on the scan.

Heres a quick go. Used Curves to select and correc black Somne quick spot healling. Selected Color range (highlights) featherd by 5, reduced highlights a little. Desaturated the red in ht face only. Hope you like it.
gotta go, wife yelling.

V8Rumble & Lecherro: Thank you both for your replies and retouches. V8: did you just use the healing brush to smooth out the skin? Steve

I did some noise reduction as well to get rid of some noise and jpeg artifacts. That's probably where the skin smoothing comes in.
