Overwhelmed! Photoshop experts please advise

I am overwhelmed by Photoshop CS. Can anyone recommend some basic books? Photoshop experts how did you learn, where did you start? Thanks

A pretty good book I recently bought is 'The Photoshop Book for Digital Photographers' by Scott Kelby. It gives you some step by step instructions for enhancements/modifications in Photoshop that you may find useful as a digital photographer. I would say go to your local bookstore and flip through it, along with the tons of other ones that they would have there and see what fits best for you. I also bought a book for Adobe's Camera Raw, called 'Real World Camera Raw with Adobe Photoshop CS'. I found that book to be useful as well, a little redundant at times, but still useful.

I like the Scott Kelby book as well. Instead of just explaining what every menu and button does, it explains how to do things that you as a digital photographer want to do, like changing colours and contrast, removing imperfections etc.

Like tofuboy says, go to a bookstore. There are a lot of books about Photoshop CS.

My vote goes with Scott Kelby's book too - easy to follow and easy reading.

Kelby's book is good. You might also take a look at Adobe Photoshop CS One on One by Deke McClelland

Kelby's book is good for a photographer starting with Photoshop, but I thought I'd make a recommendation for the 2nd book you should buy. Once you are up to speed on the basics, and you're ready for more advanced concepts, try Adobe Photoshop CS for Photograhers by Martin Evening. I think this is an outstanding book. I read this link and went and bought the Scott Kelby book. Great advice guys - brilliant book.

The Scott Kelby book is great. The best way that I can suggest to get learn PS is to just dive right in. Learn the basic tools and go from there.

I've been working in Photoshop professionally (on a daily basis) for about 7 years now (since version 3), and I'm still learning new stuff.

The biggest tip I can give to make PS work for you is to learn how to make channels and layers work for you...

I bought two books. "The Photoshop Book for Digital Photographer by Scott Kelby", and "Real World Camera Raw with Adobe Photoshop CS" by Bruce Fraser.
Both are excellent books.
