Top Gear took a "production" Bugatti up to 407KPH = 253 MPH!
Insane!
At that speed the 1001 HP car would run out of gas in 12 minutes, the tires are only rated to last another 3 past that..
These guys are nuts! (so is Bugatti!)

Very entertaining show is top gear.
It's just a shame Clarkson is such an ignorant twit when it comes to anything remotely technical, or even objective.
His idea of a great car is clearly decieded upon by the marketing budget of the manufacturer in question, or what he had for breakfast that day.
Now, who wants to lend me a VW Bugatti, I need to get home quickly.

Really a great show. Maybe we could get them to so a show on how to take pictures while leaning out of a car going over 100mph.

Those figures are nuts. I've been behind the wheel at 230 km/h and that was just plain scary. Can't even begin to imagine 400! Such a great show.

I grazed a car going 300kph on my sportbike once (mach 0.25). I'm sorta done going that fast. I cannot possibly imagine even on a controlled track going that fast.
In the eternal words of Captain Hikaru Sulu:
"Fly her apart then!"
407 kph = 1/3 the speed of sound. Damn.

Fastest I ever went on wheels was approx 130 MPH...
Not sure the actual speed but the needle was pegged at 120mph, and we know the speedo was calibrated to slow, ie: it would read 55MPH but the car was going faster by about 5MPH and I'd get a ticket :)
I was never a top end kind of guy though, I liked the acceleration and short light to long or at most 1/4 mile drag races.
Top end speed like that,, I mean .. that's just crazy!

I couldn't imagine what 253 mph would feel like... heck, I can't even get my mercury sable past 105 unless I'm going downhill.

I think I watch Veyron videos on youtube for about a week after I saw the first one, lol. What's amazing about the Aero is that it was created in Easter Washington where I grew up. You have no problem finding road to do 250 out there...I remember this one guy with a pretty decked out Viper who just loved to out run the cops but one day they brought out the "chaser" car...I'm pretty sure that chaser car wouldn't be able to keep up with either of these though, lol.
If you want to go really fast, try this enclosed motorcycle (http://jalopnik.com/346625/acabion-gtbo-the-750bhp-340mph-enclosed-motorcycle-enters-production) that does 340mph. See, 250mph doesn't sound so nuts now does it. :-P The nice thing about this one though is it gets 100mpg at 100mph...but cost more then a Veyron which I don't think anyone that doesn't have a Veyron already would buy.

Just remember one thing about the Police:
You can outrun their cars, but you can't outrun their radios...

Top Gear is a quality show. Last series was brilliant. I actually went to same 6th form as Richard Hammond - had same maths teacher!

RS-200 for me. 0-60 in 1.9 seconds including gearchange.
It's fun going 300+ on a nice stright road. Even better over jumps and sideways on gravel at 200.

That's ridiculous. If man was meant to go that fast, he'd be born with a catapult strapped to his ass.

Interesting to note that the engineer planned the tire longevity and the fuel tank consumption/volume around the top speed. It is designed to run out of gas before the tires dissintegrate..but only just barely. It's like they knew someone would be dumb enough to try out max speed for as long as they could..just because. Smart planning I'd say..dodged that legal bullet. Wanna bet someone is stupid enough to try finding a way to get more fuel into one of them?

They just need to do a second run with new fuel & old tyres............

Not sure the actual speed but the needle was pegged at 120mph,... 141mph, with Cinturato HS tires. Chrysler was nice enough to give us 150mph speedos, & this guy in a 911S was kind enough to clock me as I passed him, so I'm sure of the actual speed. ;)
