Do I understand this correctly?

If I install my newly purchased CS3 on my Desktop computer, I cannot also install it on my laptop, without first deactivating the version on my desktop.

IE: I can't put it on two or more of my own personal computers.

Yes you can install it on your laptop.

You can install it on a second computer, however the license will only allow the user to use CS3 on 1 computer at a time.

Two, then you have to deactivate one in order to activate a different one.

And as stated above, you are only supposed to use one of the two installations at a time.

Its Adobe's way of trying to be flexible but still preventing businesses from buying one copy for two full time users.

I don't know about you, but I have it on my desktop and my laptop and Adobe is okay with that. As mentioned, their only real requirement is that you only use one computer at a time if you have it on more then one, but they get suspicious if you load it on more then two computers. So don't try the work, home, & laptop thing.

All of the above except that the advice to deactivate one machine in order to use it on another. You don't have to do that -- just run it on one machine or another and you're fine. If you try to run it on both machines at the same time there may be a problem.

De-activating would be useful if you're trying to transfer to a third machine. But I'd uninstall first, then install to the third machine and activate, and you're good to go!

Obviously I wasn't clear, sorry.

You can have two computers "activated" at any given time, but by the license you are only supposed to be actively using one installation at a time. So you can't be using CS3 on your desktop while the wife/GF/room mate is using it on your laptop (or other desktop, etc).

If you install on a third machine and want to activate you will need to "de-activate" one of the other two machines first. There is no install limit, any install should run in DEMO mode for 30 days, but you are only allowed a maximum of two fully activated copies at a time.

I thought that would be how it worked, but I saw the statement in manual about deactivation.
