These are for photogenic shots. She will be in a pageant coming up. CC welcome. First real attempt at studio shots.

#1 precious pose- seems a little over exposed-but that could be my monitor.
#2- again adorable- I would watch the stray hairs over her eyes they are distracting.

Very cute! She kinda looks like a young Reese Witherspoon.

You say these are your First?

Very well done, beautiful captures both of them.

I might suggest using a light to shrink the irises of her eyes. That way you can really bring out the color of the eye. And like was said before, the hair.

Otherwise very nice poses, great color.

For a first time effort these are terrific. Colors are great, focus spot on, subject a beauty. I would suggest cropping that first one up from the bottom to just above the bow on the right. And her skin looks to need a bit of smoothing in #1, especially in the shadows.

Sounds like a good tip. Can you give me an example of how to do this?
- Use a flash (fire) and then immediately after the fire take the shot? Would this be the technique.

Yep, see what you mean. These shots are straight from the camera other than cropping. No PP at all. With a little sharpening for the eyes, little contrasting and removal of the stray hairs.... your right these could be even better. Thanks.

I agree, they are really well done! The second one has a slight pink cast on my monitor. Or there was a red sock in the white wash ;):)

Yeah, I shot some headshots for a friend a week ago and I just used a flash light, from far away to shine on her face (I don't own much equipment, even the strobes I had were borrowed from a friend). Other places I've seen recommend a small halogen to shine on their face. It looks ugly when taking it but the results are very nice. The extra catchlight you create can just be taken out in Photoshop or something, assuming you can even see it.

Very nice shots of a cute little model.

When I saw the subject title, I cringed. Usually the photos need a lot of critique, but your first attempt is a good one. I'd follow some of the advice you've already received. Like the eyes... one trick I use is to just leave the modeling lights on. If that's not enough I trip the strobes with the wireless test button once or twice. ;)

What a cutie! Good job on the shots. I like the catchlights.

One trick is to tape four lines on the softbox to simulate a window.
