I found out about the meet too late. I was walking out to Kaena Point when pphobe and G35 were driving back so I at least got to say hi to them.

There were not as many albatross as there was when I was out there 3 weeks ago. No sign of the chicks. I only got a few shots, I'll try to pp them soon and post them. Did get to see some whales jumping off shore. Cool.

Luis - what lens did you use for the seal shot? The exif says 420mm.

btw, i forgot to pose the truck in front of the sanctuary entrance and take a pic of that for posterity. eh, maybe next time.

that campfire shot would have turned out better with the full moon showing but i did not set up quick enough in time to get it as the clouds moved in too fast for me.

luis was sort'a chuckling at that as i missed other opportunities the same way: too slow on the draw. those perfect moments come and go real quick.:o

from what i can see that's a special limited edition toyota racing development marine pickup. it's supposed to come with oars, life jackets and air bags that do double duty as chassis floatation devices. but i don't see them anywhere.;)

if and when we do go back i hope some laysan alba's are still there. i wanna use my 600mm heavy arty for something other than taking surfing pics.

thanks linkzi, and you're correct, we had fun the whole time we were there. we even stopped off at what i think was mokule'ia beach park to take pics of the kite surfers doing their thing. i'll post a couple of those shots as i am able.

here's a couple more, one of which broadened the view of the shot luis posted to include both the western and northern coastlines of the island in one shot, and for those that haven't been there yet, the albatross sanctuary in the foreground.

edit - the haze on the right in the first shot is being made mostly by the sun shining through the salt mist kicked up by the surf breaking along the western shoreline.

the other is a shot in the opposite direction from the same vantage point.
