Is it just me or is there a lot of dirty sensors lately????

I think it's a combination of factors - new cameras that people are really tearing into as well as the "me too" factor - people looking at their sensors because other people have been. I just cleaned my D60 sensor (for the first time!) mainly because it'd been discussed a lot around here. It wasn't very dirty at all - only a couple of small spots on it after 2 years and a lot of lens changing, mostly outdoors in windy conditions and without turning the camera off, so I wouldn't have bothered without all the other discussion on it.

It sounds like those of us in the PNW might have to worry about ash on more than our sensors.

I've been watching it (http://www.fs.fed.us/gpnf/volcanocams/msh/) - looks like you're more in danger of rain spotting right now, though!

I can see the mountain really good from my house here in Portland. It is cloudy today, but it is supposed to be clear for the next few days. I climbed the mountain two years ago and watched a webcam of the mountain to see what was going on bero hiking. Here is a link, if it blows, you should be able to see it here...Dean

If it does blow, I hope the wind is blowing east until it subsides or all the rock and ash settle. But it's probably 50/50 that the wind will either be blowing west or east. And the Gorge asks as a funnel to channel anything in the air in the direction the wind is blowing.
