Pretty shocking.

I saw some previews of the new batman movie and it looked exciting.
It's really too bad.

I am not sure if he was one of those actors involved in drugs, etc...no details of cause of death or any signs of homocide...

"According to WNBC, Ledger was found with pills strewn all around him."

Overdose...either by accident or on purpose it seems like...

"NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said Ledger had an appointment for a massage at the Manhattan apartment believed to be his home. The housekeeper, who went to let Ledger know the masseuse was there, found him unconscious at approximately 3:30 p.m. ET, according to the New York Times. After receiving no response from the actor after shaking him, they called authorities."

That's sad. I thought he was a great actor.

i just found out and came to post something. I was just reading on how he prepared for his role as the Joker and it said that he lived in a hotel room alone for a month perfecting the role and the physically of the Joker. It also said the mental preparation messed up his sleep patterns and he could only sleep a few hours every night.

Now this is just speculation but perhaps it was an over dose of sleeping pills that caused this. or something else linked to this role.

Whatever the case this is so sad. He was a great actor and i love almost all his movies. Man, a whole life wasted. :(

You might be onto something. He didn't look like the typical junkie actor type.

If that is indeed the case, that's a sad ending to a promising actor.

That will make the new Batman very difficult to watch. Perhaps that will become somewhat of a tribute piece for him now though.

Not sure if this sounds "accidental" overdose of sleeping pills....who knows. One can only speculate at this point.

I'm sure the media will run wild with unfounded speculation and uninformed witnesses soon enough.

Until then, I'll wait for the police/coroner to make a statement.

Sad news definitely.

I've been very eager to see the Dark Knight - the trailer and his acting looks great!
Will be sad to watch, especially if Batman does his thing..

Well finally when the news is over at 7pm, Entertainment tonight will focus on something other than Anna-Nicole and Britney.

Poor guy will have his whole life ripped apart for all to see. Daughter will be confused etc.

The entertainment media kicks into high gear tonight.

Damn, that's a tragedy. I liked in him a lot of things - he was great in the Patriot.

What a tragic waste - he was a talented actor, certainly the kind who could have sustained a successful career. I'm having goose bumps now, I was within a couple of blocks from his apartment this afternoon. With speculation on drugs, I can't help but think of River Phoenix, another tragedy.

Just read the news feeds. Normally I don't even react much, but the guy was so young and just really got his career going. I was really looking forward to The Dark Knight after seeing the trailer and being positively surprised that his acting seemed so promising. Not easy to follow after Jack Nicholson.

If drugs are involved, then I won't be surprised, mainly because so many within the entertainment business seems to be doing them. But it'll still be a shame. Seen many of his movies and liked him. :(

Just been watching this on the news. With a part (albeit small) in the movie industry this is sad news. He looks brilliant in The Dark Knight. He was just getting good, and this happens.

Sad news indeed.

I had seen the trailer for The Dark Knight, and hadn't even realized it was Heath Ledger as the Joker. I'm just repeating what's already been said, but I'll add - I enjoyed his performances and thought he seemed more down to earth than some. I feel sorry for his little girl and wife (?) Michelle Williams. Darn shame. He and I are the same age, and I can tell you that he's going to miss a lot of life ahead of him.

well that sucks! I really liked his movies. Almost all of them actually. Seemed like he had his head on this shoulders more so than other hollywood types.

I was literally in shock when I saw this when I logged into yahoo just now. I couldn't believe it! I thought he was such a great actor and so attractive. It breaks my heart that he had been divorced and had a child. I can't even imagine. Suicide or not, this is a tragedy. RIP Heath. :(

I still watch A Knights Tale with my son, about once a month, or whenever we want to watch something and don't know which to choose.

His craft will be missed.

Artists find themselves so vested emotionally in their craft, that they end up resorting to artificial enhancers, to keep them up to par. Sadly enough, the price to pay is very often too high.

I wonder what his thoughts were when he heard about the death of that other kid, that passed a few days ago, from an overdose.

For whatever reason, this does not seem like a suicide to me. Just doesn't seem right. He had just seen his girlfriend the night before for dinner. He had filmed a movie that wreeked havoc on his sleep patterns? He had a baby daughter younger than my youngest son? I just can't imagine it. It just breaks my heart.

According to TMZ (I know, not your most reliable source), he had pneumonia. Perhaps it was an accidental overdose.

His death makes me really sad. I had the biggest crush on him. I was going to marry him. ;)

I don't know how I'll ever be able to watch A Knight's Tale again. :(

It's always so surreal when someone famous dies. When I found out, it took a few seconds for it to really sink in. It's a terrible shame. He was an awesome actor with a lot to live for.
