Ok. So I belong to a couple parenting forums as well as here...don't really have time to post anymore, but I got an email from a friend saying I "Had to" go and read a new post today...Here is the original post:
Subject: Photography buffs....questions!
Dh & I want to get a GOOD camera, that will last a LONG time. But we know nothing about them. We've seen kits like this one: Canon EOS Digital Rebel (http://cgi.ebay.com/Canon-EOS-Digital-Rebel-XT-18-55mm-4GB-Kit-350D-USA_W0QQitemZ250206467961QQihZ015QQcategoryZ107909 QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) and we were wondering if these were any good? What does SLR mean?
We'd mainly use it for taking pics of the kids, maybe holiday pictures, wildlife, the kids' sporting events, etc.
Seemed innocent enough. Here are a few of the responses....
SLR means "single lens reflex"
Its a professional camera (photographers like me use those) anyway thats a GREAT camera and would last you a VERY long time!!!
I just got my XTi in the mail today!! It is AMAZING!!!!! I had the 35mm version which is very similar, so I already knew how to use it. But seriously, it's so easy to use. Canon is a great brand for beginners.
Most every professional photographer I know uses Nikon. They are better, they just aren't for beginners. They are a little more difficult to use. Canon is more user friendly.
Cannon are usually cheaper. I really don't think the Nikon is hard to use. It has a great instruction manual and there are lots of forums of "experts" that can help. Really it's just getting used to your camera and learning what settings work in what situation. It's really trial and error.
now keep in mind that NONE of the people posting are "professional" photographers eventhough they might say they are. There are other responses/comments as well, but these are the ones that caught my eye.
Now...alot of you on here are by definition "professionals" with YEARS of experience and portfolios that are waist deep. I realize this is a biased forum towards Canon:D, but as professionals....what are the thoughts you're having after reading these?
Just curious...I'm having mixed feelings, but then again I'm reading ALL the other posts.
