I just purchased a Canon A720 and the OVF is horrible! You can only get a vague idea of what you're shooting because the view is so distorted. Is it supposed to be like this? My wife has an A560 and the OVF is great, did they just cheapen the OVF or did I get a dud?

I don't know what you mean by OVF but I have an A720 IS and it seems to work fine, although I had to adjust the brightness setting up 2 stops as the pictures tended to be underexposed. The picture quality also is not quite as good as the S5IS and I never get good quality with the digital zoom.

I've read several reviews of both cameras, and I would have to say it's the A720 that gets more praise for IQ. If you look at this website it allows you to compare shots side by side. When I do that, I see colour distortion in the flowers in front of the house with the S5, and none with the A720. http://www.imaging-resource.com/IMCOMP/COMPS01.HTM

To the original poster, if you're seeing more clearly through your wife's A560 then the A720 OVF must be defective.

OVF=Optical View Finder, I believe.

I should have made that more clear in my original post. I think some mistake it for the LCD. It's the small glass viewfinder at the top of the camera.

I've used it several times and it is definitely 'off center' so to speak.

Guess it's become more of a marketing tool now on the compacts.

I'm guessing the S series are more purpose made.
