Ok so this place was the best lit gym I have been to IMHO. I decided to shoot ambient towards the end of the game, but I also did a ton of it during the JV Game. But someone requested me to shoot the game so I did almost the entire Varsity game with strobes for that person.

Anyways with ambient light I used 1600 ISO F2.8 500 to 640 Shutter. If I moved up to 3200 ISO I could do 800 shutter. Anyways how great is that lol It was actually really nice. And I must say the Mark II 1600ISO is really really good! Barely any noise at all.

Enjoy

I love the expression on the last one, its funny to get a shot of a player making a funny face, its makes for good blackmail, i mean laughs.

Great job

By the way I will add this was the first gym I have been to where the ceiling was black! lol I had to put my 7 inch reflectors on and aim them so the light would fall onto the court as there was no bouncing going on

Wow! For a well lit gym there's an awful lot of black in there. Good work, Matt :) .

yeah the ceilings were black and the end walls behind the baskets were black. Made it kinda nice for the pictures to be honest.

great images again Matt. I do think the colors look better strobed but I'd certainly be proud of the ambient pics, they are solid!

Did you find it odd to shoot ambient again (as in did you miss your strobes when you did)?

Those images are really sharp and clean. Your subjects seem to pop off the photo, the focus is so sharp.

Ahhh, I don't really miss ambient but the only thing I like better then shooting strobes, being able to hit the action in bursts instead of one shot, wait, one shot.

With strobes you really have to time your trigger release to get a peak action and no arm or ball in the face, with bursts you get the entire drive pretty much which gives you a better chance of getting the shot.

The good thing from this past game, I shot at a 70% rate of keepers. That is the best I have done so far.

awesome keeper rate. I get excited anytime I'm hovering around 50%.
