I'd say don't identify yourself by your camera body.

On the car board I admin for, we stopped name changes altogether. Aside from being lazy, we also got to "know" people buy their screen name and when they switched you didn't know who it was any longer. I'd pick something non camera related if you are allowed to change it at all.

And, on another forum that I am a member of, they have an interesting concept in which users are required to use their real names (and prove it, of course) before they are allowed to participate. Everybody has a name -- why not use it?
The poll needs to include an "All of the Above Ideas Are Silly" category, otherwise the results will be skewed because only ... well ... uh ... ahem ... you know ... who will vote.

Some people are afraid of listing their hometown for location and now you want them to specify their real name. A lot of people will not register.

I'm guessing with 1500 posts you're gonna be stuck with what you've got....

Hmmm ......
I can see another poll in the works --perhaps something akin to the following --
If you don't use your real name for your handle, the reason is which of the following:
There was a story about me on "America's Most Wanted"
I am in the Witness Protection Program
The guys at work will know that I am not the camera expert that I proclaim to be
My spouse will find out about the camera equipment that I have squirreled away
My boss will find out that all of my time at the computer is not work related
I am a recluse living in a log cabin in the mountains
This really is my name, as strange as it may seem because my parents were computer geeks.

10-8 forum?
:D I had to look it up to see what it was. It looks like they have ways of enforcing their rules. Not only do you have to use your real name ...... but ..... bad grammar and spelling will get you called on the carpet, too. I hate to think what the punishment might be -- maybe the "witness protection program". I am afraid their rules would put most of us out of business pretty quickly. ;)

Very rarely. I did it once, but it went from mcohran to Mark_Cohran -- not much of a jump. Once you get past a thousand or so posts, though, I think the mods are much more reluctant to allow the change.

Its just a hunch but I bet that CDS will reject a name change if you insist on getting one with a camera model name in it. Because if you do then it is a sure bet you will ask for another change next time you get a new camera.
Name changes are not done on a whim. It puts a strain on the database everytime it is done so it is only done if requester has a really good reason.
Consider a name without camera model and think of a *really* good reason then send CDS a PM.

no it was truly more of a tongue in cheek thing
I will keep this name its no big deal at all
I started with greg20d on a quick decision ..but it is who I am here its hard enough for me to remember my names on this and other pages etc.

Ok. Then consider my post general information to members that choose names with camera model included ;)
