I'm appreciating the images I've seen of crows posted here alot more now but I challenged myself to at least try getting a black bird properly exposed.

With some tips given to me I tried again today....overcast so I had to use the built in flash on my 350D with an ISO of 800. I really start to notice the noise shooting anything over 400 ISO with this camera.

Anyway...here's my attempt from this morning before work.

Better than my lumps. So you think it's the flash? Got to try that next time. Not many crows around though. :)

I would like to try it with some natural light...I know the flash helped but to me it looks fake...well, not natural. (not sure what I'm trying to say )

Thanks superdiver...I never noticed the different shades in the feathers until I viewed the images on my computer.

Yeah, it's the shadow outline from the flash. Fill flash minimizes it, but I don't think you can use fill flash with the on board flash.

Tough to get proper exposure on these black beauties under those conditions....need more light. But I really like the pose and comp of #3.

Good work for the overcast conditions, you need good light to wor with these all black birds.
