Hi Photographers!
I am getting ready to make my first purchase of prints from Mpix-so my question is should I go with E-Surface Kodak or the Mettalic paper? I noticed that on the Metallic option they do not suggest this paper for portraits-anyone know why? I will be printing portraits by the way. Thanks for the info!

I understand metallic is more suited for landscapes and vibrant color...But to answer your question, I'm not sure why.

Perhaps somting to do with the rendering of skin tones???

E-Surface is standard like Lustre. Metallic is just that--metallic. IMHO, the metallic isn't a good catch-all paper. It's best suited to certain subjects.

Metallic has a pearlescent under glow/shine/sheen to it. So for portraits where the skin is supposed to be soft it can add a harsh/metal look to it. So this might work for a portrait if you are trying to show off a nice glowing tan in lots of sunlight because the metallic would add to the actual look of the person. But for the most part it is not well suited for portraits.

I ordered a portait on each paper and I did not like it on the Mettalic. My thought is that it would be better suited for landscapes or urban shooting. Cars, boats etc. It is kind of neat though.
