I just finished reading this article on CNN Money (http://money.cnn.com/2008/01/24/news/economy/stimulus_package/index.htm?postversion=2008012417).

Looks like most single taxpayers would get $600 and most two-wage households would get at least $1,200.

Unfortunately the check won't be ready until May or June (http://money.cnn.com/2008/01/24/news/economy/rebate_timing/index.htm), but I can still plan for it.;) I would use it to partially fund the 35L prime. I've been eying this lens for a while.

What would you do with your check to help stimulate the economy?:D

I'm getting a $1400 tax refund in 2009 due to stupid new Czech tax rules regarding tax bonuses for non-residents so I'll have this to come next year. I miss the British tax system, everything so easier and laid back :(
Anyway spend the money wisely ;)

Well the credit card will be paid off by June, so if the check comes before, it'll help pay it off sooner, if after then I'm $600 closer to my 400 5.6! Unless I can convince my husband to give me his half too then it's mine, all mine!!!!

This may be a stupid question, but where is all this money coming from? - Is GWB 'selling off the silver' or something.
You can bet you life he'll get it back another way (tax increases on something or other)

I think most people will probably pay off debt so it may not 'kick-start' the economy quite as much as he hopes...

(You could always put it towards paying off your 'sub-prime' mortgage :-))

Just print new money - inflation is of no worry ;-) (I joke.)

Ugh..... either paying a bit more on student loans or a 70-200 2.8.

Why is this such a hard decision????

Lucy I feel the same. I worry that I'll look at my new lens and secretly wish we'd put it on the student loans or the car. I'll probably feel guilty for spending it.

And Kevin we have no way of paying it right now. Mike Bloomberg said it best the other day (not a direct quote) "They're eating the seed corn without thinking of next years crop." We'll still have to pay taxes on this money next year with our income taxes. The $600 isn't going to do much at all. People need to eat and heat their homes and buy gass, all that equals more then $600 a month. Plus it the gov't pays out this money and 50% pay off debt then what will happen. Plus it'll take months to get to us, by then some may very well be MUCH worse off then they are now.

I like the seed corn quote :-) - I'm sure GWB knows what he's doing though... ;) :)

Er, um, we're not all fans of GW. And I think we're supposed to stear clear of politics? Could get ugly. ;)

Anywho... I'll be paying off debt as well. We're moving soon, so I can kiss any "extra" cash goodbye.
