My hotshoe adapter has no threaded hole. And my umbrella clamp does.
I'm wondering exactly how far up the hotshoe adapter the electronics actually are, as I'm toying with drilling a 1/4" hole and epoxying a length of 1/4" threaded bar in there. Maybe the safest is to epoxy a short 1/4" bolt?

Depends on whether you're talking about the kind of hotshoe adapter with a built-in PC sync cord adapter, or one which merely provides you a means for attaching it to the stand. If the former, I've no idea. But if the latter, there's no electrical connectivity of importance (in fact, some circles will assert that any electrical connectivity jeopardizes your flash's safety). The flash will fire d/t the signal from the cord, nothing on the mount.

I would think that item number 0068 would make it so you don't have to modify your exsisting flash.
FlashZebra (Lon) is a member here you could PM him and see it that would work for you.

Ha! You have it in one there, Lon! I wish these things were easier to get here goddamnit!
I'll drill a small hole and recess a 1/4" nut in it - what's the worst that could happen (hotshoes are £3!!)

One drawback to your idea is that it might break and your flash could come crashing to the ground.
Measure twice, cut once! :-)
Good luck.

Precisely what I was thinking. reinforce w/safety cord around the flash and stand

I think we'll be safe with epoxy. It's harder than the plastic itself :D
