Is it absolutely essential to completely discharge the battery every time you want to recharge. I have to nip out soon with my camera and no time to fully recharge but I'm not certain how much juice is left! So, I'll stick it on, cook it medium-rare and go......
Don't say get another battery - £100.00! That'll have to wait.
Thanks

The 1D MkII battery is a Nickel Metal Hydride, not Nickel Cadnium. It does not suffer from the memory problems that plague NiCad batteries.
The NiMH 1DMkII batteries SHOULD function in close to the same way as the Lithium Ion. No need to discharge in order to charge.
The camera manual should discuss this, to a point.

NO!
Not at all.. the whole point of the "refresh" function is that you only need to do it every few months or so. (I think Canon says once a month but really this depends on use.)
I just did it the first time after about four months.. and I still get a healthy 1800-2200 shots on a charge.

No to me? or to the discharge? If No to me, then I misread the manual and my bad for putting up wrongly inturpreted information.

It was suggested that I buy a spare battery for mine when I collected it as they had one in stock!
Ok Says I....... and found I have never run out of juice on a shoot!
Nice to have though, I guess.....!
