I need a new Photo printer and need advice on what to buy. I tentatively have it down to:
Epson 1280
Epson 2000P (no longer made but still available)
Epson 2200 which replaces it but is in short supply
Canon S900/S9000.

I have had bad experiences with epson in the past (banding) so I had been leaning toward the Canon S9000, however I am hearing the quality control/banding problems on the Canon on this forum.

Got a Canon S800 and it's working perfect. Basically sold my Epson because of the high ink usage and cost. Due to the seperate cartridges Canon is a lot cheaper.

Henk, if it was me, I'd go for the Epson 2200. However, the Canon obviously has its points. This is the conclusion from Michael Reichmann's review of the 2200:

The question now becomes — how does this printer compare to the other choices available, including the Epson 1280/1290 and especially the new Canon S9000.

If archival issues aren't critical for you, but lower purchase price and ongoing ink costs are, then the Epson 1280/1290 is a very good choice. The biggest strength of the S9000 is its speed; dramatically faster than anything from Epson. So if that's a major concern then the Canon is a very good choice.

But if neither speed nor costs are of paramount importance then the Epson 2200 is today's hands-down choice in a photographic printer.
