I was by the river and I spotted 2 rowers coming toward me. I knew I had to get the shot before they passed, or I would be shooting almost directly into the sun. However, I fumbled with the Tamrac Velocity 9 bag, and by the time I got the camera out, even with the 20D's instant startup, they were already passed. So, I took this shot anyway.
Is this a keeper or should I scrap it?
[BTW, I wish the Velocity bag had a "quick release" on the shoulder strap that would allow you to keep it up high when on your back, and then when you flip it to the front you could quick release the strap to make it longer. That way the bag would hang lower, and be easier to get things out. The way it is now, when I flip the bag around, the top of the bag when opened is almost in my throat!]

I like it! The B&W give it a good effect...like the water splash from the paddle adds interest.
One thing I'd touch up is the logo on the girls shirt...I'd darken it up to be less distracting. Other then that it works very well.

Thank you very much. 8)
Is your monitor calibrated? Because mine is, and I can't see any logo on the shirt, just a black sillouhette.
Perhaps I will darken it some more. Thanks again.

No problem. My monitor is calibrated, and all I can see is a sillouhette as well. It just looked like a round logo (at least thats what it looks like to me). I thought I had a spot on my screen with my 1600 x 1200 resolution....I saw it better at 800 x 600.

Clearly if you like it, you should keep it. I would encourage you, however, to attempt to understand what compelled you to take the shot. Once you've done that you will know if it measures up to the intent that caused you to shoot.

I really like it. The crop suggested by Flowe really works well with the image too.

Yes, I also like the cropped version better. In the original version, I felt that the out of focus water at the near the bottom of the picture was a distraction.

I can see the logo on the top too.....but that maybe because i use a laptop and depending on the angle i have the lid at i get different views.
I calibrate my screen regularly but i suppose its pointless unless you have the screen at the same angle everytime you use it.
How do you other laptop users do this?
nice pic btw.
