That must be it because nothing is making sense right now.

does it really matter at this point? it was just a rumor to begin with anyway.
sure i would have loved to see what a new 5d would come out with. but im not heart broken. my stupid xti still does the job it did yesterday, today, and it will do it tomorrow as well.
plus it gives me more time to save more cash.

I'm glad no 5D has come out. There's quite a danger of turning into the auto industry -- too much model churn.

Good enough compared to what? Nikon (or anyone else) has no direct competitor to the 5d, never mind 5d mII (3d/7d whatever), so it's just as likely Canon had no intention of releasing the mkII at this time as to any other reason.

Probably not.. if they did release a successor for the 5D now.. then Canon wouldn't have anything to release in Fall.

The longer they wait, the better the camera will be. Certianly much more than the 20D/30D jump.

The longer they wait, more people is going to switch systems.

...and if they're going to do that they'll likely switch back once Nikon delays a specific model upgrade and no longer has the year's newest technology!

Not necessarily - Nikon offers a compelling product with the D3. The combination of Canon botching the AF system on the early 1D3 bodies and Nikon putting out a formidable competitor has already driven some folks to switch.
Switching at that level is expensive, and people don't take that decision lightly. So once they're gone, it'll take a decade or so to get them back unless Canon comes out with a compelling reason for them to do so sooner.

At the same time, at that level its also hard to switch in the first place. Good glass is not cheap. A camera body that wasn't the best is certainly not grounds for a switch because some neat tech. feature is out. At least if you have a lot invested in lenses.
I think more people would opt to just adding a Nikon body and a couple lenses to their line up instead of just switching completely.

Maybe they cancelled the release becasue the 5dII shared a focus system with the 1d III ? Rumours are great eh?
