So I've been a member for ages, it's time to bite the bullet and post something!

I've just returned for 18 months in New Zealand where I spent sometime in Kaikoura photographing these incredible birds.

C&C welcome!

1: New Zealand White Capped Albatross (Thalassarche Staedi)
2: Southern Bullers Albatross (Thalassarche Bulleri Bulleri)

Welcome to POTN! This is a great first post. All of these are very good. The middle two are good, but I think the first two and the last two are great. I love the water being shaken off in the last two.

These birds are so photogenic for those lucky enough to get near them.
Number three is the classic pose for painters - wonderful.
All are good pictures, though I would appreciated them being a little larger.

A belated welcome to POTN Craig :) Its a pleasure to see these shots of a great bird I may never see. The second last shot is my favourite but the third shot is also excellent and intriguing the way the wing tip appears to be in the water. Looking forward to more of your posts.

On their own, I wouldn't rate the last two, but as part of the set they're good behavoural shots. Nice set of awesome birds.

They're extremely photogenic, incredible experience to see them. I took several hundred shots on this trip!

They were all shot with 350D & 100-400, my 30D gave up the ghost when I got out on the boat!

Thanks for the comments everyone.

I'm very impressed with 2 and 3, 2 because of the excellent color and eye and bill detail, with the droplets, and 3 because of the excellent and dynamite flight attitude. Looks like you were shooting with snorkle package :D

I like the intimacy of the 4th photo, cool stuff!

They're huge, some have 3 metre wingspans. I really want to see more in the future, such majestic creatures!

Being among my favorite species of birds, these are all simply magnificent! The 2nd and 3rd capture most of my attention, lovely colors, sharpness, detail. Amazing birds, and I hope to get down there to see some of them in real life!
