Sorry folks for taking so long, I was at a presentation.:)

This game is to help those of us who are trying to learn new tricks when it comes to editing.

Here's the break down of the game. I will post a picture, that I choose, resized to exactly 800 pixels maximum on the long side. Outside of being resized it has to be unedited...meaning no adjustments to any levels, it has to look like it did as it came out of the camera.

The game will last 48hrs and whoever can produce the best edited image (as judged by me) will be picked and it'll be their turn to post their unedited picture for all of us to take a crack at.

The participants must have there "Image Editing OK" turned on and they must provide at least a simple breakdown of how they edited the image, some entrants are a little vague on this point, please give us all details so we can learn and share tips. For instance if you use the unsharp mask tool or Smart Sharpen provide us with the adjustments you used so others can try them out.

You can post multiple images, but the first image you post will be the one that is judged - all other images will be considered for knowledge and tip use only.

Also, please keep all comments, be it positive or negative, to yourself until after the game has ended.

If you happen to be the winner of the a game please start the next one with the title of the game and the following number. For example…the next game should read (Before and After # 14.)

This is all about having fun so have at it!!!

This game will end on January 27, 2008 @ 7:00pm PST.

This picture was taken from atop of the Eiffel tower, I really like it, so have fun with it!

Alright, here is another go.

1. Opened in CS3 bridge. Adjusted saturation, vibrance and fill light.
2. Straightened the image.
3. Opened in CS3. Adjusted levels.
4. Duplicated background, set blending mode to screen with an inverse layer mask and painted the trees to lighten them up.
5. USM - 300, 0.3, 0.
6. Used a free boarder.

This is the best I can do.
I did some adjustments in camera raw to expose the ground the way I wanted it and opened it has a smart object.
I created a copy of the smart object and used camera raw to change the way the sky is exposed.
Used a gradient to mask to transition between the two layers.
Change to lab color and did an apply image.
Changed back to rgb.
Cropped the image.
Sharpened a little bit and saved it.

Heres my edit:

I've also attached a shot of my levels palette because this was a fairly intensive edit.
Heres the settings for them top to bottom:
CB2: Midtones: 0,0,52
CB1: Midtones: 0,-7,-25
B/C: -35,68
PF1: Color: Brown Density: 55
L1: Click White Dropper and define clouds as white point
OR here is what I sampled:
Red: 0,1.00,191 Green: 0,1.00,214 Blue: 0,1.00,228
H/S1: Colorize: 205,67,3
E1: Define White point first, then -0.54,-0.0588,0.46
L2: 19,1.10,233
L3: 11,78,255

Everything is layer masked sooo it would be difficult to reproduce but if one was inclined, they could do it as I've included the masks.
Also done to this image:
Crop
Slight contrast bump on import
Slight levels bump on import

Good to be back from Vegas so I can finally get on the internet. I edited the levels, curves, with the Nik software I used cross processing and foliage, then did a smart sharpen.

Hope Im not too late.:p

Adjusted colors in curves(kinda hard to pinpoint exactly what numbers the levels were at, it was personal preference)

Then went to filter>render> lighting>lighting effects
basicly just made the center lighter by adjusting the roundness of the circle.

Added a vignetter and cropped

Well everyone, once again this was a tough choice because of all the great entries that were entered. And the winners are:

1. sf1- I really liked what you did with the colors in the trees, and also the picture isn't dark
2. Flywing - The picture was great as well as the border, I liked the simpleness.
3. Tied - SilverHCIC & thekid24- really creative with the artwork and filters used to create such effect.
Once again WTG everyone, all the entries were great.

This is what I did

Congratulations everyone!! These edits were realllly good. After I saw BitterSweet's, Flywing's and asteve-o's (who posted before me), I knew I couldn't improve on those!! And those who posted after me did an equally good job.

I almost didn't submit, and then I decided to try something different.

This game is sooo much fun, and I'm seeing some increadible work, that will make my own skills even better!! I can't wait for B&F # 14!!!:D
