I know this is a digital photography forum, but I can't find any other active forum like this one, so I'll ask anyway because it doesn't hurt to ask right?

Anyway, I don't know anything about film cameras and I'm taking a photography course at a nearby college and my teacher told me to purchase the Nikon N80. However, when I checked the price, it was around $400 and frankly, I don't have that kind of money to spend right now. I'm totally an amateur and I have no idea what to look for in a film camera. I saw that the Canon film cameras were a bit cheaper. I was wondering if anyone could suggest a decent Canon film camera. If there is a better Canon film camera, could you please compare and contrast between the Nikon N80 and the Canon one?

I'm trying to either buy a Nikon N80 or a Canon so it would be helpful if you could stay in between the two brands.

I hope someone can help me!

Canon uses different names for the same model in different parts of the world. "Elan 7" is the name used in the USA for the camera that's called "EOS 33" in the rest of the world.

EOS 33 = Elan 7
EOS 30 = Elan 7E (the same as EOS 33 / Elan 7, but with eye-controlled AF selection)

EOS 33v = Elan 7N (new version of EOS 33 / Elan 7)
EOS 30v = Elan 7NE (new version of EOS 30 / Elan 7E)

I have an EOS 30 myself and although I almost don't use it anymore since I got a 10D, it is a very nice camera. (And no, sorry, I'm not selling my EOS 30!).
