I own a PowerShot G3 that I purchased just under a year ago (on October 5, 2003), which means the warranty is just about to expire. I have never dropped the camera and I treat it very well. I've taken just under 3000 shots on it.
I've had numerous problems with this camera, starting with the first day I purchased it. When I brought the camera home, no light was being let in through the lens so I had to take it back to the store. I had to mail it in to be repaired in December (a zoom lever problem) and again in August (because the lens was stuck in the extended position). My August repair was just completed and my camera was mailed back to me a week ago, and today, the LCD screen died again (it's only showing a whitish-grey screen with a few faint vertical lines).
I know that I can probably mail it in and get it repaired again just before my one-year warranty expires, but at this rate, my camera will crap out on me again before Christmas and then I will no longer have a warranty.
So, what can I do?
Someone told me that I should send it in to Canon and demand an upgrade to a G5 or something similar. Will they actually do that? I don't even mind paying the difference, as long as I get a different camera, since I seem to have horrible luck with it (though it takes beautiful pictures). I would be happy with another G3, even.
I'm so upset at this whole situation, because when I spent $600 on a camera, I expected it to last more than a year.
Please help.
