Hey,

Just got my Hama hand strap. One end bolts to where the tripod hole was, and the other end can either attach itself to the cameras tether points or loop back to the other end of the attachment, the latter of which I have done. my neck strap goes to the top two tether points

Just wondering what everyone else does in

there was a thread around here someplece with pictures of how to attach both...

I have the handstrap connected between the battery grip and the neck strap eyelet - and the neckstrap goes from a 'connector' on the top of the handstrap over to the other side of the camera.

I wondered about the ones that attach to the tripod mount - do you have to disconnect it to mount a tripod?

Depends. My 70-200 will mount on its own ring. the Tamron is so light...but still, wouldn't chance it!

I have connected my Hakuba handstrap and POTN neckstrap to my 5D and 40D. The 40D was a little trickier. I have the extended attachment to the camera and connected the top part of the handstrap to that, didn't fit both on the metal ring. But it holds it well. I use both and the handstrap steadies me.

Well, whatever you use, I would urge you to always check your straps before you go on a shoot...

I had the 5D and 24-70 in my hand a couple of days ago and the 40D and 70-200 hanging off my shoulder - when one end of the LowePro strap disengaged... I managed to catch the loose end before the camera and lens hit the ground...

I have the E-1 hand strap connected to the right side connector and the grip. I have the Op/Tech pro loop strap (both sides of it) connected to the left side connector on the camera. Like this (not my photo):

Neck straps always annoyed me previously, but I actually like it with this setup.

Handstraps are cool and all, but how do you use the vertical exposure controls with one of those on there? Doesn't it flop around and/or get in the way?

What is a "POTN neckstrap"? Is that a certain brand?

See here (http://www.procameragear.com/potn/) (linked at the top of every page). It's an OpTech strap with POTN "logo" on it. Profits go to help fund the site.

Hi,

I'd used similar hand straps with earlier camera systems too, and always liked them.

But the Canon E-1 became essential when I got my EOS-3s some years ago. The access door on the end of EOS-3 (custom function buttons, etc.) is just spring loaded, has no latch of any sort. So it has a really irritating habit of catching on clothing and snapping open and closed when carrying the camera hanging at your side on a shoulder strap. Installing E-1s on them solved that problem entirely.

I've used them on every Canon body since, but you do have to have the vertical grip/battery pack installed.

Yes, for the E-1, but not for the Hakuba. Don't need the grip.

I bought the Noink hand strap for my 1D and it fits on there very well. I have since gotten a 40D with grip, and it fits that very well also. On both of them, I also mounted the neck strap from the left side top hole and left side Noink mount plate on the bottom, so I can carry it on a shoulder, pretty much like the pic in #6 above.

Yes, for the E-1, but not for the Hakuba. Don't need the grip.

With the right stuff, there's no "don't need the grip" with the E1. You just get a similar bottom plate as you get with the Hakuba and attach the E1 to it. If the photos say a thousand words, then the E1 strap is more comfy than the Hakuba.

But what do I know about the Hakuba? :P

I love the E1 handstrap, as obviously many others as it is constantly out of stock. I also have a neckstrap, but I don't put it through the handstrap grommet, I manage to push both through the slot, otherwise the neck strap pulls on the handstrap.

I like using both, but with option to remove one or the other for different scenarios.
