Great sequence! It lacks a little sharpness but still great images. By the way, is that a white lab mouse? I didn't know there were white mice in the arctic.

I'd be delighted with any of these. Second shot is my favorite, Ted - very nice with the "snow trail".

I think they are all super shots, but #1 takes the cake for me. The focus of the owl and the seemingly oblivious mouse just reminds me of nature at its rawest form. Thanks for posting!

Can we take it that the other photographers you mention are baiting Snowy Owls with domestic pets also?

Just a for what it's worth, I asked a pet shop owner near here about pet mice and he said most of them he sells are for food for everything from snakes to pyranhas. Been that way for decades. :)

Great series, love the first one - pet mouse or not!

Mitch - I'm not saying that's not the truth but personally I'm appalled by it. I've kept pets of all sorts over the last 40 years and have found that domestic mice and rats are possibly the most intelligent of the usually kept species. We currently have a Rat who has learned to make a noise in his cage by moving a toy item. Once means he wants chocolate, twice means he wants to come out, two bangs followed by running to the door when he's seen we're watching etc. Another Rat used to sort out all the orange pieces of food from his bowl and pass them through to my wife. When I was sitting next to the cage he'd only pass through green pieces.
Give rodents a chance chaps they're infinately smarter than your regular dogs and cats!!!!!!

Dave, I totally agree, they can learn complex patterns and I have had pet rats and loved them. On the other hand, hearing a mouse gnawing on something inside a wall or sneaking out from under my dresser across the room gives me the willies and it doesn't bother me at all to set a trap. Some are pets, some are pests. At those fairs where they show raptors flying around with leather straps on their feet, they sometimes use live chicks as food. That bothers me a bit more than mice, cause I love all birds. I try not to think about it too much though. :)

Great series Teddy!

PS: Let's not highjack Ted's thread on the ethics of baiting....They are other forums to discuss such debates.

I spoke with a guy yesterday who says he finds them everytime. I'm leary myself...I tend to miss the birds and they can be perched right behind me...I'm sorta still that clueless lol.

A French couple I met at Hilda's this morning caught one near Pink lake, at ski trail number 5.
