Here's my first attempt at panorama photos. Both taken today with my 10D using a 17-40. Pictures sewn together Photoshop CS.
Please let me know which you think is best. I prefer the second:

Hard to tell from the size you posted. Please post a larger size. Are the pictures taken crooked?

Hellashot,
Sorry, the full size images can be seen by going to:

I'm new to Fotopic.net and it seems the link I've got to the image is only the thumbnail.
AFAIK, the image should be level. I set the tripod up on the roof of a garage overlooking the beach. That's not to say their garage was level to start with

I like the second one better, the tighter crop seems to make it more panoramic. I have to second the comment about level horizon though, it's particularly important for panorama! Whether it is level or not, I don't know, but it doesn't look level!

enigmatic,
I didn't believe it until I put the images in my photo editor and turned on the grid lines. These photos are on the level! Something about the horizon makes it appear as if these images are rotated counterclockwise a couple of degrees. I would attribute that to optical illusion.
Technically they are nice panoramic shots. However, I find the appearance of "crookedness" to be distracting from the overall scene.
I have found that in panoramic shots, it is very difficult (if not impossible) to get close objects to balance with distant objects. The dock, hill and trees on the left side overbalance the rest of the panoramic view.

Sailor Don,
Thanks for your comments. I spent some time with the Photoshop guru in work yesterday and he was saying he thought the images were level too. I was looking at posting an image with the grid lines but hadn't got around to it.
Could this be caused by using the 17mm lens? I found some of the lamp posts on the jetty are curved slightly whereas some are straight.
Will just have to keep trying :D
