I would like to buy the Underwater case for S40.
- Can I use the zoom function after use this case ?
- Is it really safe?
- If any accident about the case cannot waterproof, Canon will bear this responsibility?
- And how much of this Underwater case?
Thanks
Don

I use the WP DC200 case for the A20. As far as I know it's the same case. It's been on about 30 dives at this stage with the deepest being 29m. So far no leakages. However the camera did break in June. Canon eventually repaired it (3 months later) but at least the waranty covered it. I'm not sure if it was due to the fact that it was being used underwater or not.
I bought it from jandr.com for $190.
The zoom function works fine in the case.
Hope this helps,
DAN

Canon warranty specifically EXCLUDES water damage. It refers to it as damp! I know because that is what happened to my S20! Luckily I had a household all risks insurance policy that covered it.
You MUST get insurance cover and check that water damage is not excluded. Check all exclusions carefully and if necessary shop around until you get what you want.
The housing is great. I have used it over 18 times and went to 32 metres (only because I had to catch the attention of another diver with nitrogen narcosis who was gaily dropping down the abyss of 2000 feet) without a problem.
You need to hook the camera with another strap to your BCD as the housing is positively bouyant. It can go up but you may not be able to follow it without risking DCI.
Housing is $185 incl sales tax from www.17photo.com in New York. I picked mine up personally when I was over there on a business trip so had no shipping charges.
