View Full Version : WORLD WIDE PHOTO WEEK: PART 97 -- Broken

BLS
27th of January 2008 (Sun), 18:42
The theme for this week is "Broken." Interpret this any way you like, as different and unusual interpretations are always welcome.

Here are the rules:

1. Shots need to be taken between sunrise Monday and sunset the following Sunday. Because this activity is supposed to encourage us to get out and shoot, please don't post old shots from your archives. Crummy shots and art are equally welcome -- just get out & shoot, and then share!

2. Post your shots at any time during the week.

3. Post a maximum of two shots if you're uploading them to POTN (i.e., attaching them). You can post more than two if you're linking to shots that are not hosted by POTN (i.e.,embedding them), but keep within POTN rules. Also keep within POTN rules about size. A copy of the rules can be found here: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/...ad.php?t=51049 (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=51049)

That's it! Have fun!

Here we go. A bit lame, but...

This is what's left of a potted plant that's in my office. When the last round of redundancies happened, this got left behind. It's been stood on the desk ever since. The lease on the building will be up next year, so I can imagine this ending up in a skip at that point.

(frightening looking sets of books in the background there - mirrors some of my own. ;) )

I have had potted plants like that. yup - it's broken *thumbs up*

Ha, ha ... I had a few of them books. Great doorstops ;-) Man, put that potted phallus out of its misery. it's a truly shameful show.

As I pulled into the dock today I saw this tree all by itself. As I got closer I only felt the pain of the mother's broken heart.

A couple of local snaps with the G9 taken on my way home tonight. The first shows an old pub that has seen better days, located next to a cafe where I often eat lunch. Second is a broken pattern at my feet.

Ha!

The various Sydney councils would call that pristine! Ya gotta be ably to trip and break a limb (or two) for them to put it in the broken category. :D

VGP -- Welcome to the World Wide Photo Week! I'm curious about your tree. Is there a story that goes with it? A fatal car accident?

The past 2 weeks I've had a hard time getting out to shoot. The weather hasn't cooperated well, and, let's face it, I've been lazy. I hope to get out today. Sadly, I have absolutely no plan for Broken. We'll see what happens.

@Pete, Lovely picture of a broken plant. I like that large selection of books behind. I find myself trying to figure out what books you have =).

@VGP, I like the image, I wonder how it looks in b/w. It sort of looks as if half the tree is alive and doing well while the other half is dying.

@condyk, Why do I feel that the first image is tilted. The line at the top looks horizontal though. I like both images.

@john, technically the batteries are broken =) not the grinder itself. There isn't a manual grinding function?

Any more pictures for this theme? =) Looking forward to seeing more.

I centred on the top line rather than the door frame so that is why it looks tilted ... the place is well broken so don't expect everything to be square ;-)

WTF ?

Are you gonna be this picky with everyones picture?

It's electric - no manual grinding

although I really don't know why I am having to explain.

Sunday here - you guys are one day short of a deadline - new theme to be though of soon...

joayne

Still Saturday and I can't find anything acceptable for the theme...Guess I will have to break something ;)

::John::
2nd of February 2008 (Sat), 16:03
Make sure it's not painful - like a toe ... ;)

No broken stuff, huh?

I found a box of trinkets (cool for a trinkets theme I am running on another BB) and there was a little statuette with its head missing in there - that was my runnerup ;)

John's right. Here are some ideas for a new theme to get us started.
1. Lost
2. Roads
3. Trash
4. Patterns

Any one want to add more?

I hope to head out in a little while to try to get my Broken shot. Just waiting for the sun to warm things up a bit. It's 25 degrees F here. It's been days since we've seen the sun, so I'm looking forward to going outside and basking.

Thank you! I played and contributed before, but I havnt been on for a long time....almost a year now

Anyhow, I am not sure what the story is. It was just something I came across. There are houses on the right and the lake on the left. I hate to think what could have happened.

Good point...here is a BW version:

Well all week I wanted to get out and shoot broken stuff but it never happened. Last night I decided to shoot inside. I conjured an image in my head which featured a broken glass syringe. I was setting it up and dropped the syringe which landed needle down, sunk to the hilt, in my foot, sticking straight up like a dart, ouch. I broke the syringe in an ash try and started to play with light a bit to minimize glare on the glass. Well I dropped the whole ash tray shattering it on the floor. Fortunately it landed on the piece of construction paper I had under the project. I now had a really broken object to shoot but it was late so I stuck with my test shots of the syringe. Pictured are my entry, the syringe close up, and the results of trying to do this at 2am in the morning. No images of the syringe embedded in my foot sorry.

The sun warmed things nicely here. Our high yesterday was in the 30's (F). Today it was almost 60. Quite a difference. I ventured out and found some broken stuff.

Wonderful shots everyone. For the last two weeks I would have loved to participate, but we have decided to sell our house so we have been busy, busy, busy.

Make sure it's not painful - like a toe ... ;)

Funny you should mention that. I broke my toe (fourth toe on my right foot, the "piggy that had none" on Saturday) moving some boxes. If I would have thought about the theme I might have taken a picture. I was too busy cursing things I shouldn't have.

Ok, I'm sorry, I know I am SO late, but I wanted to join in anyway. I hope you'll forgive me. :D

Ok, so to any of you people who live in snow, and like it, this may not be much.
But we live here because we don't like snow.
It doesn't snow here.
That makes us happy. :D

This is what our area looked like this morning.
Our weather is BROKEN.
