I just posted two macro images of a tiny green spider. He was
spinning in the breeze, so I used full flash illumination from a
pair of Canon 550EX flashes (one on the left arm of the Kirk Macro
Dual Flash Bracket as a slave and the other on the Canon 20D as the
master).

The first shot is a 25% crop of original image. 2:3 aspect ratio.

Even with the Canon 180mm "L" macro lens, there was a lot of
distracting background. The spider was very, very tiny. He was
hanging from the edge of our outdoor trash recepticle.

After cropping, I applied some sharpening. 10 pixel Highpass
sharpening. I also applied Neat Image Pro+ to reduce noise. Bicubic
Sharper was used to resize the image to 1000 pixels wide.

Image details for those who are interested:

Canon 180mm "L" macro lend
1/60th sec.
f/4.0
Auto WB
Manual Focus
ISO 100
Evaluative Metering
Raw Only
AdobeRGB

Enjoy!

Cheers,

Mitch

Cool spider, he's mine:

Took this snap with my 50mm 1.8 lens while walking in the park. He's having a snack. Turned out better than I thought it would, first time I've done post-processing with a photo.

As an aside, I think the green spider is a Magnolia Green Jumper (http://bugguide.net/node/view/2040/bgimage), assuming you're in the U.S.

Cool. Thank you!

It looks like it is indeed a Magnolia Green Jumper.
