I finally used the NP-E3 12V/2200mAh battery that I purchased for my 1D mkII from MyDigitalDiscount.com. It worked great for about 600 shots when suddenly my AF locked up (wouldn't AF anymore) and the camera became non-responsive. I tried cycling the power on the camera, but everything remained locked up. Everything cleared after I turned off the camera, removed and reinstalled the battery and reinstalled the 100-400mmL lens that I had on the camera.

Once I got home I immediately replaced the battery with the Canon brand and had no reoccurrances of this (Scarey) lockup since. I've noticed that this off brand battery doesn't fit as well as the OEM. Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks, Jon

I would venture to guess that the problem was with the lens contacts and not the battery. Make sure the lens contacts are clean. If it happens again with another lens then just ignore what I just wrote!

That was my thought also after I got home from the game. It was just wierd that it happened while using the off brand battery. It really doesn't seem to fit as well as the OEM one!
