Or anyone that knows the way arond NYC :)

Scottes and I are headed for Cape May in Southern NJ next weekend.. and we will be driving past Manhatten about noon - 1:00pm

I was told by an Aunt in Jersey to take Tapan zee bridge and avoid G.W. like the palgue...

Does this sound right?

Any Ideas.. we will be coming from Mass/RI

That time of day, the GW might not be too bad, but I'd take the Tappan Zee anyway. Don't take a chance. The sooner you can get over into Jersey, the better time you're likely to make.

On the other hand, if I were you, I wouldn't take advice from anyone in California on the subject of New York bridges and freeways.

Good luck and have fun.

Assuming that you want to bypass NYC, your aunt is correct. Take the Tappan Zee westbound. After about 5 miles, take Exit 14A (note the "A") and get on the Garden State Parkway. You'll pay a 35ยข toll 4 times in the NYC area (correct change helps). That will take you all the way to Cape May. I'm not sure what the tolls are once you get away from NYC. At that time of day, traffic shouldn't be a problem.

Yup. Merritt Parkway to Hutchison River Parkway (no trucks, even open pickups - but with a cap's OK IIRC) to 287 & the Tappan Zee. Then Garden State south. Shifting to the Jersey Turnpike where they cross and then Atlantic City Expressway is optional. At least it's late enough you shouldn't have too much beach traffic.

The views are better that way, also. That should be of importance to any photographer.

Watch out for the leaf peepers swarming through the Hudson Valley as you head for the Tappan Zee.

You can't win on planning a trip through NYC. The only sure bet is pure luck. I always take Route 95 which eventually puts me safely on the GW bridge. If you can get to NYC before 10 am, it's usually smooth going - and you'll save 20 to 40 minutes compared to the alternate Tappan Zee route.

Cape May is known for its boats, fish and birds. Not hard to figure what you two are up to. :) :)

CDS are you up to leaving at 6:00? It would give us another half-day of shooting boats....

Christ Man I worked a 21 hour day On Saturday... I went to bed at 5:00am... the thought of getting up at 6:00am makes my stomache hurt!

CDS - Are you talking about this weekend coming up or next weekend. If it is next weekend I live about an hour from Cape May and would enjoy meeting some people from the board, and learning from the two of you.

Also once you get on the Garden State Parkway take it all of the way to Cape May do not get on the Turnpike it will just take you out of the way. Also if you have EZPass the GSP excepts it and will cut some travel time and you can avoid having exact change.

Hope you enjoy your time in the Garden State.
