hello all

Ok guys and gals im going to need a flash to go with my 20D, is it going to be worth waiting for the 580 to be relesed and paying a fair bit for it???

as the flash that is desighned for the E-TTL II i would of thought that the 580 would be the best combo for the 20D, would you agree?

is the 580 much more powerfull than the 550, i was useing the nikon SB800 and that was a very powerfull flash how do the two compare for power and performance.

remember that i am trying to get to a professional magazine level of photography in automotive, includeing racing and car shows

Cheers
Shane

E-TTL II support is provided by the camera. All EX flashes, therefore, support E-TTL II, so I would not base the purchase decision on that.

The power difference between the 580EX and 550EX is negligible. The 580EX is a smidge less powerful than a SB800.

IMO, the reasons to buy a 580EX to go with a 20D include:
25% faster recycling time than a 550EX
flash zoom takes DSLR crop factor into account (550EX did not)
color temperature information exchanged between 20D and 580EX
AF assist light provides broader coverage to include all focus points (550EX did not)

slin100,

I couldn't help but notice that you live in Cupertino too! It's always so cool to find someone who lives right next door to you on the net! Where do you live in Cupertino? I'm right next to Regnart Elementary school, off of Rainbow and Bubb.
